First Lady of the United States, Melania Trump, wore a Ralph Lauren powder blue shift dress, cropped wrap, elbow-length gloves, and matching pumps as she channeled Jackie O with her very presidential ensemble.
As a former model she is well-aware of what will look flattering to the eyes of both her husband’s Inauguration in-person guests and television viewers. We have seen the First Lady often dressed in European designers such as Gucci, Roksanda Ilinčić, and Dolce & Gabbana; but I am sure it is no accident that she chose to work with American designer Ralph Lauren – who also designed the athletic wear of Team USA in the 2016 Summer Olympics – for her husband’s Inauguration as President of the United States.
As the daytime events came to a closing, the Inaugural Balls began. As our nation’s First Lady accompanied her husband, President Donald J. Trump, to three of the ten Inaugural Balls, she was glowing in a Herve Pierre white off-the-shoulder column gown with structural details with which she helped design. Yes, the former model, now First Lady, and former creative director of Carolina Herrera collaborated on the design.
The First Lady was not the only member of the First Family to represent the American designer on President Trump’s Inauguration night. Ivanka Trump channeled her inner princess in a Carolina Herrera bedazzled, champagne-colored dress with sheer long sleeves, a deep V-neck and a full A-line skirt.
Carolina Herrera had also dressed First Lady Jackie Kennedy and First Lady Michelle Obama in past presidencies. The designer spoke to the Associated Press expressing her feelings towards the idea of dressing the Trump family, “It is an honor to dress the first ladies of the country and it’s something to do for the United States. It’s not for myself. It’s for the public.”
Earlier in the day, Ivanka wore another American designer, Oscar de la Renta, to her father’s Presidential Inauguration. The white, asymmetrical jacket and matching pants complimented her stepmother’s Ralph Lauren ensemble.
The keen sense of chicness in both the First Lady and Ivanka’s Inaugural looks mirror the class they and the rest of the Trump family will bring to the White House.
