The Style of the Kentucky Derby

The Kentucky Derby is where you’ll find some of the fastest horses and the most eccentric looks. Every girl, from all parts of the world, channels their inner “Southern Belle” for the races. The Derby is a time where attendees are expected to dress in the most creative fashion and are encouraged to include accents showing their individuality.

The Louisville event, which is known for it’s preppy, pastel-filled fashion, was also abundant in floral patterns amongst the Derby’s attendees.

And the women weren’t the only ones displaying their “flower power” this year.

And don’t forget, in the Churchill Downs Infield the hats are the most extravagant; featuring flowers, feathers, bows and ribbons of the brightest and deepest colors. According to Courtney Stinson, a PR Manager for the Kentucky Derby Museum, “We don’t have a lot of documented history on the hats, but speculation has it that when the derby was first brought here, they wanted it to be a social affair.”

Star Jones

In 1875, hats were regarded as an essential everyday accessory for women who could afford them. At special events, such as the horse races, women wore elaborate hats to display their social status.

Last but not least, roses are another common design feature in some of the attendees’ attire as the Kentucky Derby is referred to as the “Run for the Roses.” The horse who has been declared the winner of the Derby is also given a blanket made of more than five hundred blossomed roses.

Who’s ready to head to Kentucky next year?

Ritz-ify the Romper

If rompers aren’t taking up a decent amount of space in your spring/summer wardrobe, you need to reevaluate your closet.

Rompers are a go-to for every causal or even semi-formal event. They’re easy to wear, simple to style and usually comfortable.

Kendall & Kylie’s clothing line at Pacsun features several summer ready styles.

The Embroidered Ruffle Romper is a fun and flirty piece of the Spring season. It’s strapless, lined and features a ruffled hem. The details include a v-neckline, adjustable spaghetti straps, and a hidden zipper back. The fit is ideal as it appears tight and fitting, yet feels comfortable and light. The 100% cotton material is also machine washable so don’t stress about dropping food on the beautiful blue and white fabric.

Express is the place to go to seek out a romper for more formal occasions.

Screen Shot 2017-04-19 at 2.26.35 PM

The romper is available in sharp black and a deep blue. The color tone of the colors allow for all-season wear. The black can be worn with white pumps and a white statement necklace to summer-fy the look; and the blue can we worn with metallic strappy heels to make the bright hues really pop.

Kendall & Kylie’s Floral Lace Hem Romper is available at Pacsun in two colors: blue and pink.

Screen Shot 2017-04-19 at 2.24.32 PM

Also a fun and flirty piece of the Spring season, the sleeveless romper features adjustable spaghetti straps, a scoop neckline and an all over floral print. The embroidered lace detailing at the hem gives the romper a classy, yet formal look. The cinched elasticized waist does not take away from the flowy fit as the lightweight fabric is 100% cotton. Again, don’t stress about dropping food on your lace-hemmed love – it’s also machine washable 😉

So what are you waiting for? Rock a romper this weekend!

    Goyard Passport Holder
The luxurious passport holder is a celebrity must-have according to Shay Mitchell and Morgan Stewart. The high-end accessories will cost quite a bit of cash, but luckily Tradesy and TheRealReal keep the prices a lot lower for the stylish non-celebs out in the world. The passport cover is even more lovable after having it monogrammed with your initials – just like Shay Mitchell did!

  3. Adidas Originals Stan Smith

    adidas originals xx Stan Smith
Never really having gone out of style, the white sneaker is continuing its reign as another summer fashion favorite. In 2010, Phoebe Philo took her bow at the Céline S/S 2011 show wearing classic white Stan Smiths with green detailing. In 2014, J. Crew debuted the sneaker in their style guide and it quickly sold out. As all long-lasting trends begin at the runway then make it to retail the classic Stan Smith sneaker eventually found its way to the real girl. Adidas Stan Smiths are subtle, yet oh-so-covetable. They’re only $75 which is nothing compared to most “fashion girl” sneakers and go with everything. Choose from black, red or green detailing, or buy them all, and begin styling your looks around these sneakers.
  4. MAHI Leather

    MAHI Leather

The vintage style leather luggage is lovingly made to order with beautifully soft leather, sturdy brass fittings, and robust YKK zippers. The brand reduces waste by cutting out the middle men, which makes their luggage around 45% cheaper than high street equivalents. All bags can even be embroidered with your initials or a meaningful phrase.

    MAHI Leather
takes its name from the Mahi River in India.  For many this is a sacred river and in a country where 103 million people lack safe water its significance is more than symbolic; that’s why MAHI Leather donates $1.50 from the sale of each bag to FRANK Water, a UK based charity which has helped over 300,000 people gain access to clean water since 2005. To date, MAHI has raised over $7,000, providing clean water, for life, for over 100 families in India.

  5. JBD Boyfriend Jeans

Is Triangl worth the splurge?

It’s no secret that the Aussie girls’ trends always make it over to the States, and Triangl bikinis were one of the most popular as fashion girls are still obsessed with them today.

The swimwear line was started by a newly engaged couple – Erin Deering and Craig Ellis – in December of 2012 after their second date at the beach when Deering couldn’t find a bikini to wear. She was looking for fashionable and quality swimwear without overspending.

The Australian swimwear line caters to those seeking effortlessly cool swimwear that suits summer, sunshine, and the beach. It’s practical and fashionable as it can be worn all day long at the beach; to swim in, sunbath in, run around, etc.

“Simple, classic and cool,” said Deering. “We are influenced by anything that falls into those three categories.”

Triangl swimwear is unique for several reasons, but the comfort and fit are two of its main selling points – thanks to the use of neoprene in all of their pieces. “It’s an exciting fabric to work,” said Deering, “as it allows for the bikinis to hold their shape and look really structured and modern.”

By the way, the neoprene is responsible for giving us the perfect shape by smoothing out any little bumps 😉

The couple is influenced by the endless summer mindset which has encouraged them to design so many colors and shapes. The bikini tops and bottoms can all be mixed and matched to create a new look every time. The quality of the swimwear is definitely worth the price for those of us in the United States who pay about $100 per Triangl bikini set (including international shipping).

Two summers ago, the swimwear originally featured the classic Triangl bikini which became a staple in every American girl’s closet.

However, the brand eventually added more colorful designs that featured color blocked styles and stitching details.

Now as the one piece is looking to be the swimwear staple in every fashion girl’s closet this Summer, Triangl has added one pieces to their collection.

So what are you waiting for? It’s time for you to Tri a suit on!

Spring for Summer’s Classic Short Styles

The four pairs of shorts every fashion girl will need this season: embroidered, destroyed, lace and floral. Whether they’re flared, fitted or slouch, it’s not their style that matters, but how they’re embellished.

Gigi Hadid has no shame in her embroidered obsession as the supermodel has been spotted wearing embroidered clothing quite often over the past year. Embroidery adds a little something extra to the denim you already love and allows you to customize your otherwise classic denim style.

For a simple embroidered look, try Express Embroidered Graphic Cutoff Shorts or Lulu’s Rustic Charm Medium Wash Embroidered Denim Shorts – I just ordered them 😉

Many may say the destroyed denim look is a thing of the past but fashion editors and stylists like Zanna Rossi, Brad Goreski and Rachel Zoe would have to disagree; as long as you style the look properly.

Whether you’re gearing up for Spring or heading somewhere tropical, lace is a perfect way to fancy-up a casual look. These Hint of Summer Shorts from Tobi are currently sold out, but the Casanova Endless Rose Short in Nude Pink is still available on Revolve ( and on sale 😉 )

Tinsel’s Crocheted Accented Cut-Off Shorts are currently sold out at Lord & Taylor; however, for a simple crocheted denim short, try Target’s Crochet Raw Hem Medium Wash and Lace Light Wash.

Floral is something that has stayed throughout the Winter pretty much so it will definitely appear in more on the runways this Spring! Floral shorts are the solution to adding some personality to your simple looks. Kendall & Kylie have tons of floral in their new Spring collection for Pacsun.

And let’s not forget the post-Memorial Day go-to: white denim.

Best stores to find these shorts:

  1. Express
  2. Forever 21
  3. Asos
  4. Nasty Gal
  5. Pacsun
  6. Net-a-Porter
  7. Target

P.S. Work the system a little bit – If you see a pair of shorts you love and are indecisive to buy, check out the store’s return policy and if it’s reasonable, buy it! Your favorite shorts, or any clothing items, will sell out fast, so if you can return merchandise later on… play it safe and buy now, decide later.

Hailee Steinfeld was a modern beauty in a floral-embellished gown by Ralph & Russo. The gown featured a boasted high neckline with ruffle trim, an elegant cascading train and nails by Essie. The actress and singer gave the sheer style, seen everywhere this award season, a youthful vibe.

Chrissy Teigen looked astonishing is a Zuhair Murad couture gown featuring a sheer front panel, cape and, of course, thigh-high slit – Chrissy’s go-to detail.

Styled by Cristina Ehrlich, Priyanka Chopra shimmered in Ralph & Russo detailed with Lorraine Schwartz jewelry featuring 60-carat diamond drop earrings valued at $5 million. The actress also wore a pair of natural lavender jade and diamond matching cuffs with a 10-carat diamond ring.

Sofia Carson looked like she stepped right out of a fairytale for her first-ever Academy Awards appearance. The actress graced the red carpet in a beaded princess gown by Monique Lhuillier – hair brooch by Lhuillier as well – and shoes by Christina Louboutin. She complimented the subtle, yet sparkling, gown with simple eye makeup and a bold red lip by celebrity makeup artist Patrick Ta and a classic up-do by Jed Root NYC/LA hairstylist Caile Noble.

Naomie Harris, who was nominated for her supporting role in “Moonlight” stunned in a sequined body-skimming white dress by Raf Simons for Calvin Klein with Bulgari jewelry. The designer debuted his first Calvin Klein collection at NYFW this season. The Calvin Klein sandals caught the attention of many because of its contrast. The strappy heels were yellow around the ankle and diamond encrusted over the tip of the foot (& vice versa on the other foot). Harris’ glam team featured hair stylists Laura Jones, Nola Singer and Peter Lux and celebrity makeup artist Mario aka @makeupbymario.

Styled by the sister styling team of Wendi and Nicole, Octavia Spencer, who was nominated for her role as Best Supporting Actress in “Hidden Figures” looked astonishing in an off-the-shoulder, feathered Marchesa gown with Forevermark Diamond jewels and Stuart Weitzman shoes. Her glam team featured hair by Tymothe Wallace and makeup by Valerie Noble.

Styled by Faith Cromas, Kelly Ripa looked glamorous and timeless in Carolina Herrera with Fred Leighton jewels. Her glam team included hair by celebrity hairstylist Ryan Trygstad and makeup by Kristofer Buckle.

NYFW F/W 2017: Lavish Attire

New York Fashion Week – Feb. 9 to Feb. 16 – was the first city to allow high fashion designers to present their Fall/Winter 2017 collections. Designers combined elegant and edgy in both their daywear and evening wear. Featured designers include Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig’s Marchesa gowns, gorgeous Carolina Herrera and classic Oscar de la Renta.

Stacey Bendet’s Fall/Winter 2017 collection for Alice & Olivia was inspired by Salman Rushdie’s novel “The Enchantress of Florence.” “One of the themes running through the book is that a lost princess is creating her own destiny in a man’s world,” said Bendet. The contemporary designer is known for empowering women as she employs hundreds of women and has three daughters of her own. In the collection she combined fairytale-like feminine style with modern trends, specifically floral prints & darker hues.

Badgley Mischka featured much sparkle in its Fall/Winter 2017 collection this NYFW. The American fashion label designed by Mark Badgley and James Mischka presented elegant, sophisticated evening wear: covetable gowns with metallic accents and various silhouettes lined with glitter.

Carolina Herrera F:W 17.png

The angelic Carolina Herrera gown can be worn to a Fall wedding or ball. The upper gold metallic long sleeve top captures one’s attention and would compliment a golden glitter eye shadow. The top is contrasted by the subtle nude floor length skirt.

The Christian Siriano gown can be worn to a Winter wedding or Holiday party. The  sparkling skirt with a slit at the thigh features black & dark golden metallic stripes. The subtle black top contrasts the  glittering bottom while keeping you cool with it’s strapless detail (if the heat is on too high). The side pony emphasizes the edginess of the style and the matching sparkly heels channel the model’s inner party girl.

Delpozo’s Creative Director Josep Font presented symmetrical designs for daywear in the label’s Fall/Winter 2017 collection this NYFW. The runway featured inventive shirting, peplum tops and trousers of deep blue, amber, burgundy and green hues. He attracted the season’s color palette from the works of Hungarian painter Jøzsef Rippl-Rønai – a member of a group of Post-Impressionist artists of the 1890s – and his silhouettes from Max Bill – a Swiss architect and sculptor.

Erin Fetherston applied the Parisian style she adopted while studying fashion design at Parson’s School of Design in Paris to her Fall/Winter 2017 collection. The burgundy floor-length gown is flowing yet symmetrical – aka chic.

Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig for Marchesa were inspired by Imperial China for this NYFW’s Fall/Winter 2017 collection. “We mixed in new color stories  that we haven’t done before. And we had a lot of fun,” said Craig. The runway presentation featured elaborate couture gowns with cap-sleeves, black Chantilly lace, floral embroidery and embellished sequin detail.

Oscar de la Renta’s Fall/Winter 2017 collection was presented at NYFW sharing the runway with Monse. The Monse models walked first, then Oscar de la Renta’s and both designers featured colorful metallic sequins in their collections. The previous founders of Monse – Laura Kim & Fernando Garcia – made their runway debut as Oscar de la Renta’s new co-creative directors.

“Snugg” in Your Uggs

The UGG brand was founded by a young Australian surfer on the shores of Southern California in 1978. His Aussie roots inspired the coastal classics creating a symbol of relaxed southern California culture. The brand gained popularity through surf shops and down the California coast. The brand gained such a momentum that in 2000, Oprah declared the UGG one of her “Favorite Things” so the UGG company gifted 350 pairs of boots to her studio audience. The New York Fashion world became crazed with the UGG brand in the early 2000s, evolving the footwear from casual boots and slippers to chic luxuries that graced the pages of Vogue. Then in 2003, the brand exploded overnight after the debut of pastel hues was featured on Oprah’s “Favorite Things” again. UGG finally opened their very first retail store in Soho, in 2006, making its mark on the fashion capital of the world: New York City. The brand is now sold in over 130 other countries designing footwear, handbags, clothing, outerwear, home goods and several other products.
